The UK’s leading biltong brand, Cruga is honouring its African heritage by supporting rhino conservation efforts with the sale of every pack of biltong.

We’ve joined forces with Save The Rhino…

As the producer of the UK’s favourite biltong, Cruga celebrates our authentic African taste. Now, Cruga is supporting the conservation of one of Africa’s famous ‘Big Five’ species: the rhino. For each small pack of biltong sold, Cruga will donate 1p, and for each 70g pack, 2p, to Save the Rhino, to help secure rhino species for the future, donating a minimum of £10,000 a year towards rhino conservation efforts, through the sales of their biltong.

“We are delighted build on this partnership with Save the Rhino and the UK’s number one biltong, Cruga. The synergy with the charity and our customers is really exciting, and we will be sharing the work of the charity and highlighting this on all our packs going forward.” James Newitt, CEO, New World Foods (Europe).

…and, together, we’re delivering impact for rhinos in the wild

“Collaborating for conservation is at the core of our work at Save the Rhino, and we’re thrilled to team up with Cruga Biltong to protect this iconic species in the wild. By working together we can stop the key threats of poaching and habitat loss so that rhinos in the wild are better protected. We are excited to launch our partnership with Cruga Biltong and raise crucial funds for rhino conservation efforts across the globe.” Michaela Butorova, Partnerships Manager, Save the Rhino.

Some of the work we’ve supported….

Cruga are helping to support parks such as Hluhluwe-iMfolozi. Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park (HiP) has suffered intense poaching attacks in recent years, and rangers are at the heart of the Park’s strategy to reduce this threat. Rangers are the first line of defence for the Park, and often spend weeks, if not months, at a time patrolling remote poaching hotspots. To do their important work effectively, the team must be well-trained and equipped.

Often, it’s the simple stuff that makes the difference for rangers. After an exhausting day on patrol, thanks to the support of our partners and donors like Cruga Biltong, HiP’s rangers now have gas stoves to cook a hot meal, and comfortable mattresses to rest and recover. Whilst these might seem like very basic pieces of kit, they can make the world of difference for boosting morale and ensuring rangers get a well-deserved break after a long, difficult day.

The team at Cruga haven’t just been raising funds for rhinos. We’ve also supported the incredible fundraisers at events including the London Marathon in 2019. Cruga joined the post-race picnic, bringing biltong to share with the incredible (and somewhat exhausted!) runners: a treat for taking on the 26.2 mile challenge in support of rhino conservation efforts!

“We wished to partner with a charity that many of us are passionate about. There is also a meaningful connection with biltong, being an authentic African style meat snack. Cruga and Save the Rhino is an exciting partnership for us to be aligned with and we look forward to helping to raise money and support for this charity.”
